Fran’s Restaurant is a beloved local restaurant chain known for being open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. There are three Fran’s locations all within walking distance from Ryerson campus. The closest establishment is located at 200 Victoria Street which is a seven-minute walk from the SLC, second closest is 20 College Street with a 10-minute walk from the SLC and the one furthest away is 33 Yonge Street, a 16-minute walk from the SLC. Fran’s is usually consistently busy but reaches its peak around 12pm on weekends.

Fran’s offers large portions of good quality food for low prices. The most expensive item on the menu is only $25. All day they offer breakfast as well as a selection of diner favourites and yummy desserts. They have a variety of vegetarian options but have limited vegan choices. The majority of the food they serve is healthy and everything is always fresh! Every location has a classic diner vibe. The staff are friendly and quick to refill your (free!) water glasses and coffee. There is plenty of comfortable seating, making it a great place to eat with friends and loved ones. It’s not too noisy, allowing for good conversation.

I had a triple decker BLT on toasted brown bread with a side of home-fries and a large half pickle. The bread was fresh and toasted well. The lettuce and tomatoes were crisp and well-proportioned. There was a good amount of bacon, which was cooked to perfection. The amount of mayonnaise complemented the sandwich and added to the flavour instead of overwhelming it. The home-fries were very well seasoned, not greasy, and perfectly cooked. Served with  a large, crisp and garlicky pickle, this is definitely a dish i would order again. This meal is $11.29 including tax.

I would rate my experience today a 4.5 out of 5 and would recommend this place for anyone looking for good quality cheap eats near campus. I docked .5 marks because there are not many vegan options. Take out is available if you don’t have time to eat in. There might be a wait, but it will be worth it.
